VoiceThread is an application that runs inside your web browser, so there is no software to download, install, or update. VoiceThread allows you to place collections of media like images, videos, documents, and presentations at the center of a conversation. These conversations are not live; they take place whenever and wherever it's convenient for people to participate. A VoiceThread allows people to have conversations and to make comments using any mix of text, a microphone, a webcam, a telephone, or uploading an audio file.

Select the Sign Up or Register link in the upper right hand corner.
Fill out the requested information.
And that's it! You are now ready to begin creating your first VoiceThread conversation...
Here are two printable guides that you might find helpful as you begin learning about VoiceThread. The first one is a step-by-step workshop to get you going. The second one is specifically aimed at helping teachers use VoiceThread in the classroom.
1. Start small. Begin by creating your own VoiceThread on which students may comment. As your students become more comfortable with VoiceThread, they can make an individual project.
2. Model appropriate comments for students. Give them prompts to start their comments like, "This reminds me of..." or "I'm surprised that..."
3. Make sure to discuss internet safety and copyright issues when starting a VoiceThread project.
4. Under one account, you can create several avatars. You can easily monitor students from your account.
5. If your VoiceThread is public, make sure to monitor all comments.
